“It is a great honor to be selected as a recipient of the 2016 Thomas R. and Laura Ridge Scholarship. This generous scholarship will enable me to focus on my academic work and continuous leadership development.”
Marc Wagner, a second-time Ridge Scholar, is pursuing his law degree at Penn State Dickinson Law School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Wagner graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in May. In school, he held top leadership positions with Phi Delta Chi, a professional pharmacy fraternity; Phi Lambda Sigma, pharmacy leadership society; the American College of Apothecaries and the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy student council. He completed the Bridging the Gaps Community Health internship and served as a chemistry and mathematics tutor.
His community work included performing blood pressure screenings for Grandparents Day at an Elementary school, and assisting with new students and community informational days about kidneys, vision and medication adherence.
In his personal essay, Wagner describes a patient encounter where he was able to assist a patient in finding the help she needed and why he has chosen to pursue a law degree.
“I strive to build upon the importance of service to others reinforced by my pharmacist training and channel this energy toward public service in the legal profession,” he wrote in his essay. “I desire to intertwine my knowledge of pharmacy and health sciences with law so that I can navigate the complexities of the legal landscape of modern day health care.”
His father, Gary Wagner, works for Giant Food Stores, sponsor of his Ridge Scholarship.
