The United States Department of Labor (DOL) recently released its much-anticipated salary standards for overtime exemption. Beginning December 1, 2016, the minimum salary where exemption from mandatory overtime for executive, administrative, or professional employees can be claimed will be $913 per week or $47,476 per year. This is a dramatic increase from the current level of $455 per week, or $23,660 per year. In addition, the regulatory change contains a mechanism to automatically update the standard every three years based on the 40th percentile salary of the lowest-earning region nationally.
