Vice President, Retail Marketing & Services
C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc.
Frank Puleo, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc., was recently appointed to the Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association (PFMA) board of directors.
Puleo has enjoyed a long career in the food industry. Most recently, he joined Associated Wholesalers, Inc. (AWI) as director of Center Store Category Management and Replenishment and, after C&S Wholesale Grocers acquired AWI, he was promoted to his current position as vice president of Retail Marketing and Services for the Mid-Atlantic, where he supports former AWI and White Rose retailers. He manages all the company’s retail stores and its advertising groups. In addition, he oversees Retail Technology, Retail Pricing and Margin Management, Category Management as well as Advertising and Marketing.
He also worked for Nash Finch as vice president of Center Store Category Management, and for SUPERVALU with regional merchandising responsibilities for Shaw’s, ACME, Shoppers and Farm Fresh. He also worked for Bozzuto’s, Inc. as director of Center Store Category Management. Puleo started his career at Genuardi’s, where he progressed through various merchandising roles and eventually become director of Merchandising.
Since C&S Wholesale Grocers’ customers are independent retailers, Puleo recognizes the important work PFMA does on legislative and regulatory issues.
"At C&S we support independent businesses and the families that depend on their success," he says. "Our retailers need to have a collective voice to represent their interests in the various legislative issues that impact their ability to support their families."
He noted that small increases in costs can make the difference in retailers' ability to stay in business. Issues such as health care, minimum wage and tax increases can have an impact on retailers.
"I am pleased to join the board of directors of PFMA," Puelo says. "For most of my life, I've supported the growth of supermarket retailers of all sizes; large publicly traded groups of chain stores as well as single store operators. PFMA gives a voice to retailers of all sizes and promotes the wellbeing of the industry. The PFMA focuses on industry issues that affect all retailers regardless of size. It's important PFMA looks out for the well-being of retailers, while they focus on running their businesses."
