Following President Obama signing S. 764, the Biotech Labeling Act into law on July 29, the USDA sent a letter notifying all states that the preemption of GMO labeling laws were effective immediately.
The letter also outlined the state's ability to adopt disclosure standards identical to the national bioengineered food disclosure standards currently being drafted by USDA.
USDA posted guidance for labeling statements that bioengineered or genetically modified (GM) ingredients or animal feed were not used in meat, poultry, or egg products. Visit www.fsis.usda.gov for more information.
