Barbara W. McConnell, 81, former executive director of Food Industry Association Executives, president of the New Jersey Food Council and a former Hunterdon County Assemblywomen, died October 21 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, New Jersey.
McConnell was active in Democratic Party politics, serving as an assemblywomen; a former gubernatorial candidate in the 1981 Democratic primary for NJ governor; and a former Commissioner of Commerce and Economic Development under NJ Governor James Florio.
She served as a lobbyist for many years and an owner of the McConnell Group, which later merged with the MBI-GluckShaw Public Affairs Group, in which she was a principal.
She is survived by her daughter Terry Abigail McConnell of Manalapan, NJ; and two brothers, John Wright, M.D. of Nashville, Tenn. and Joel Wright of Lebanon, Tenn.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Amwell Church of the Brethren, Delaware Township, New Jersey.
