PFMA and PDA sent a letter to the General Assembly in support of HB 2342, a bill amending the Tax Reform Code and establishing a five cent per fluid millimeter tax on consumable vapor products. The legislation would be effective October 1, 2016, or immediately, whichever is later.
SB 1373 is the Senate version of the bill that PFMA also supports.
In the letter, Alex Baloga and Jerry Kupris point out the negative impact the 40 percent tax has on the industry, causing some businesses to close and jobs to disappear. In addition, the tax is confusing as to what is taxed. Representative Wheeland’s legislation clarifies the issue, taxing only the vaping liquid, not the battery and other non-liquid components.
