Ahold-Delhaize, Wegmans Food Markets and Weis Markets were among the companies named the first U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions this month by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
The list features businesses and organizations who have publically announced their commitment to reduce food loss and waste in their operations in the U.S. by 50 percent by the year 2030.
Wasted food has a major impact on food security, resource conservation and climate change. In September 2015, the USDA and EPA called for a 50 percent reduction in food loss and waste.
To join the U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions, organizations complete and submit the 2030 Champions form, where they commit to reduce food loss and waste in their own operations and periodically report their progress on their website.
