“I am honored to have been selected as a recipient of the 2016 Thomas R. and Laura Ridge Scholarship. Working in the food industry at Wegmans has had an enormous impact on my life, including the opportunity to apply for this scholarship. Thanks to the assistance of this scholarship, I can pursue my dream of a business education at Penn State.”
Eric Gaspich will attend the Pennsylvania State University’s Smed College of Business as a freshman this fall. He is employed by Wegmans Food Markets in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
The Cumberland Valley High School (CVHS) graduate was a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, and the lead attorney for a mock trial. In addition, he was a member of the orchestra, choir and the It Take one Anti-Bullying Club.
He was honored as the CVHS Soaring Eagle and received the Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week 2015 Scholarship. His community service activities included Caitlin’s Smiles and as a parade marshall and planning committee member.
In his personal essay, Gapich describes his experience working at Wegmans since the age of 15.
“Wegmans has not simply been a job over the past year and a half; it has been a passion, place of learning, and an opportunity for personal development of my sales and customer relations skills,” he wrote.
His good work at the supermarket has been recognized and Gaspich was invited to join the class of 2020 Wegmans Management Intern Program.
