“I am honored and excited to be selected as a recipient of the 2016 Thomas R. and Laura Ridge Scholarship. It is a blessing to be given this opportunity for my education. I am grateful for this generous support as I work towards my goal of becoming a chemical engineer in the consumer goods or food industries.”
Claire Rosenberger, a three-time Ridge Scholar, is a junior at the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) where she is studying chemical engineering.
At PSU, she is active in the Society of Engineering Science, Women in Engineering program, CHAARG (Changing Health, Attitude and Actions to Recreate Girls), and Apollo, an organization raising funds for pediatric cancer. In addition, she plays intramural soccer and serves as the team captain, and runs for the club cross country team.
She won first place and people’s choice awards at PSU’s Regional Rube Goldberg competitions in 2015 and 2016 and a third place award at the National Rube Goldberg competition.
In her personal essay, Rosenberger writes about a summer program helped her realize the versatility of chemistry.
“I was attracted to the versatility of career paths that chemical engineers could tackle, including plant and process design, creation of new materials and even pyrotechnics engineer,” she wrote.
She is the daughter of Thomas Rosenberger, who works for Sheetz, Inc., sponsor of her scholarship.
