McMenamin, who joined the company in 2008, previously served as vice president and general counsel and was actively involved in the supermarket’s operations. Before joining the company, he was an attorney concentrating on bankruptcy, corporate restructuring and debtor/creditor rights litigation. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from Temple University and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond.
He is co-vice chairman of Wakefern Food Corporation’s Sales and Merchandising Committee and the Health and Beauty Care Committee and serves on the ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. Operating Committee.
McMenamin says he enjoys the variety of work in the supermarkets.
“From real estate, human resources to customer issues, there’s always a new challenge, a new issue to keep the job exciting,” he says. This is a people business. I really enjoy working with the people, the customers and our associates.”
Rich McMenamin remains very much a part of the long-term vision for the company.
“He thought it would be a good idea for me to take on even more responsibility for our operations, McMenamin says. “He’s the steering force and remains very much a part of the long-term success of our company.”
Rich and his wife Rene started the business in 1995 and they, along with their children, continue to work hard to make the stores successful. Their daughter Bria currently serves as vice president of administration.
The new president notes that it is the family’s vision to continue to grow and they are actively seeking the right locations.
“We give our people the credit for the success we have had through the years and any growth and success in the future will be due to the strength of our people,” he says.
