The well-publicized FDA requirements that stores post calorie information on menu boards have been extended by one year. The new compliance date is December 1, 2016.
According to a written statement, "The FDA agrees additional time is necessary for the agency to provide further clarifying guidance to help facilitate efficient compliance across all covered businesses and for covered establishments to come into compliance with the final rule."
The regulations as published apply to stores that serve "restaurant-type food" and have 20 or more locations. Applicable locations would be required to disclose calorie information on menus and self-service machines, post a statement on daily caloric intake, and provide written nutritional information upon request.
PFMA applauds FDA for agreeing to delay the compliance date. PFMA will continue to work with the Pennsylvania delegation to Congress and its national partners to amend this rule on behalf of its members.
