Customers patiently waited as Sheetz cut the ribbon to officially open its ninth Dauphin county convenience store on July 23 in Middletown, PA.
The company worked closely with the Harrisburg Airport Authority to bring its 523rd convenience store at 1401 West Harrisburg Pike to fruition.
President & CEO Joe Sheetz said the location's proximity to Harrisburg International Airport made it an attractive site.
"It follows the model for areas that we look to do business," he said. "Locations near colleges, airports and hospitals are attractive. We are also way under index in the Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York areas. We need to build more stores in those areas."
Sheetz will make a concerted effect to fill in stores in those areas. It's next opening at 4651 Lindle Road, Harrisburg, is set for September 3.
As part of the grand opening celebration, Store Manager Kevin Judge received a key to the front door, which he immediately threw away, since Sheez is open 24-hours a day.
The company also made a $2,500 donation to Special Olympics Pennsylvania, which assists 1,800 athletes in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.
