City Councilman William Greenlee's bill, which calls for Philadelphia employers (with ten or more employees) to provide their workers with paid sick leave, moved closer to becoming law on February 3 after a City Council committee approved proposed ordinance 141026 in support of the mandate. The bill would require all employers with 10 or more workers to provide them with one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked -- up to a maximum of 40 hours or five days a year.
Mayor Nutter, who has vetoed similar bills in two prior sessions, offered support of the proposal via his chief of staff Everett Gillison, who testified that the administration was pleased with amendments to the bill.
The bill is expected to be approved by City Council on Feb. 12.
2015 is an election year for mayor and city council.
