
Upon its return to session, Philadelphia City Council will see new faces, and others in new places. Joining City Council will be five rookies: former State Rep. Cherelle L. Parker; former Council aide Derek Green; real estate developer Allan Domb; education activist Helen Gym; and Republican businessman Al Taubenberger.
In addition, there was a somewhat surprising change at the top. While Council President Darrell Clarke will remain in his spot, Councilman Bobby Henon was selected by his colleagues to replace Curtis Jones as Majority Leader. In his inauguration speech, Council President Clarke laid out his priorities for the next session: addressing poverty, building community schools, preparing students for the workforce, and overhauling the criminal justice system.
