"I am beyond thrilled to be selected as a recipient of the Thomas R. and Laura Ridge Scholarship. It has been my dream since I was little to attend college, and this scholarship is helping to make my dream a reality. I am so honored and grateful."
Rebecca Feaser graduated Valedictorian of her class at Faith Tabernacle School in Boiling Springs. She will begin her studies at Shippensburg University this fall, where she will major in computer science.
In high school, she was a member of the yearbook team and worked on the Reflections poetry book. She served as CEO, CFO and treasurer for the school's sub sale and as a project leader on the CAD team.
In her essay, Feaser wrote that she plans to succeed in computer science — a career dominated by men.
"According to the United States Department of Commerce, less than 25% of STEM jobs are currently held by women," she wrote. "I want to prove that women can be just as successful in this area as men."
Feaser works part-time for Karns Quality Foods, sponsor of her Ridge Scholarship.
