Jerry Weiner, vice president of food service for Rutter’s Farm Stores, plans to retire August 28. Ryan Krebs, restaurant manager at Rutter’s Middletown, Pennsylvania store, will take on the role following Weiner’s retirement.
Weiner, 67, joined the York-based convenience store company in 1997 and has created many innovative food products for its 60 stores.
Those items have included hometown favorites such as fried sweet bologna and whoppie pies to classics such as Mac and Cheese and beef short ribs. He also expanded the offering from traditional hot dogs, burgers and sandwiches to a variety of tacos and fried meal baskets that feature chicken wings, beef short ribs, shrimp, mahi-mahi bites or chicken strips.
Weiner told Convenience Store News that Rutter’s foodservice really started to excel in 2007 as the company was opening more stores and growing its food service business. They started hiring more people from the restaurant industry and teaching them about making food in convenience stores. The company continues to hire associates from the restaurant industry, including Weiner’s successor, Ryan Krebs, who is a chef and graduate of Johnson & Wales University’s School of Hospitality.
Enjoy your retirement, Jerry!
