The Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (DPW) is now the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS).
The Department of Human Services will now oversee programs such as Pennsylvania's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Governor Corbett signed Act 2014-132 on September 24, effectuating the name change.
"Our new name better reflects the wide range of services we offer to Pennsylvanians as well as respect for our clients, their families and advocacy groups who have been requesting the name change," said Secretary Bev Mackereth.
While the department name is changing, all current services will remain in place.
