Weis Markets unveiled its new flagship store in Enola, Pennsylvania on March 9. The 65,000 square foot supermarket, located at 4525 Valley Road, features many first-time offerings for the company.
“We’re excited to bring the best and brightest forward,” said Kurt Schertle, chief operating officer. “We’re big enough to be significant and small enough to be nimble. That nimbleness allows us to try some new things.”
The new community market design features an open produce area with tall ceilings, large windows and skylights bringing in natural light to complement the company’s energy efficient lighting. The produce department includes 1,200 typical items, 200 organic options along with fresh squeezed juices, fruit and vegetables cut to order and fresh ground peanut and almond butter.
The expansive food court features hand-rolled sushi made in the store; a grill offering burgers, paninis and grilled vegetables; pizza, an Asian food wok station, soup and salad bar and a yogurt bar.
Weis’ first in-store pub features a rotating selection of draft beers and a growler station. In the adjoining café, shoppers can select from 900 domestic and craft beers and 500 wine varieties. They can enjoy their purchases in the sit-down area complete with a fireplace.
A full-service ice cream parlor offers root beer floats and scoops of Weis’ private label ice cream.
Other new items include a prominent display of PA Preferred, all Pennsylvania made products; and a mix and match offering of K-cup flavors for a 12-pack.
The newest Weis Market features a drive-thru pharmacy and has an on-site nutritionist available to assist shoppers with their diet and health concerns. Outside, a fuel center provides six pumps for shoppers to utilize their frequent shopper rewards on fuel discounts.
“Each new feature of this store was designed not only to provide convenience to our customers, but to also elevate the grocery shopping experience,” said Jonathan Weis, CEO.
Shoppers can utilize the company’s Click and Collect service to order their groceries online and pick it up at the store.
In celebration of the grand opening, Weis Markets donated more than $150,000 to community organizations and charities in the Enola area, including $120,000 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and $20,000 to the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition.
