The Pennsylvania Food Merchants Association recently promoted Michael Howells to director of research and association services.
Howells started with PFMA as association services manager in July 2020. In the past year, he has used his expertise to advance association services through legislative and regulatory issues research, coordinating committee schedules and organizing the conference and webinar agendas. He recently rolled out the addition of Congress Plus, an extensive legislative action and information center provided to PFMA members. In his new role, he will work to provide support on state and federal issues and engaging members on PFMA advocacy efforts.
“Mike’s skills and experience have been a valuable addition to PFMA and our members,” said Alex Baloga, PFMA president and CEO. “With this new role, Mike will continue to progress the valuable work PFMA achieves for its members in the food and beverage industries.”
Previously, Howells worked at Pennsylvania Legislative Services (PLS), where he was vice president of content, overseeing the issues-based news service The PLS Reporter. At PLS, he also served as senior editor, special projects manager and legislative reporter/data specialist.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Howells moved to the United States during his school years. He attended Gettysburg College, where he earned his Bachelor’s in Political Science, and has remained in central Pennsylvania since then.
Howells is a published author, is a member with several local and statewide organizations and is a Library of Congress “By the People” project volunteer.
